Q: I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Geography. Can I still apply for the program? A: In general, graduates from different fields of study can be admitted if the completed program is judged to be equivalent by the selection committee.
Q: I want to take one of the consortium members as my home university, but spend the mobility semester at a university that is not a partner. Can I still get the joint Master's degree? A: The Joint Master's degree is only awarded if at least 30 ECTS credits for a mobility semester are accumulated at a partner university within the consortium (60 ECTS for the double degree of Utrecht). See detailed information in the curriculum.
Q: Will I receive financial support for the mobility semester? A: The consortium members are doing their best to secure mobility grants for as many student as possible. Please not that you will need to ask about a mobility grant at your home university (not at the university where you want to spend your mobility semester).
Q: Is it necessary to have language knowledge other than English? A: It is not necessary to know other languages if you go on your mobility semester in the 2nd semester. If you choose to spend your mobility semester abroad in a semester other than 2nd semester it is not guaranteed tracks might be taught in the native language of the home university in some cases. In any case we advise you to attend courses of the languages of the countries of the respective consortium members.
If you choose Graz as your home university you need to prove your German language proficiency of level C1.
Q: I earned my Bachelor's degree at one of the participating institutions. For the Joint Master's Degree I would nevertheless prefer another consortium member to be my home university. Is this possible? A: Yes, it is
Q: Can I start the course only in the winter semester? A: Yes. The course always starts in the winter semester.
Q: Are there any regulations per number of eligible students? A: The number of eligible students is decided upon by the consortium on an annual basis.
Q: Can I apply although I'm fully employed? A: You can also apply for the course if you are employed. Please consider, however, that the programme involves four consecutive semesters of full-time study, including an obligatory semester abroad in the second or third semester.
Q: Is international experience relevant for the selection of the applicants? A: Program-relevant experience will be given consideration during the selection process.
Q: In which language do I have to hand in the required documents for my application? A: All documents for the application procedure must be submitted in English.
Q: How big is the workload per semester? A: The workload per semester is defined with 30 ECTS credits (approximately 750 working hours).
Q: What is the duration of the course? A: The duration is four semesters including the obligatory semester abroad, the master's thesis and all examinations.
Q: Is it possible to spend two semesters abroad? A: Yes. In the course of the Master's programme you can earn a maximum of 60 ECTS credits in mobility.
Q: Do you charge tuition fees? If yes, how much? A: Please find the relevant information in the "Finances Section" of this website.
Q: Can I apply for a scholarship? A: Universities may offer a number of different scholarships. Please contact the academic coordinator of your chosen home university for more information.
Q: Do I have to send the original documents for application? A: All documents have to be submitted in original + 1 copy.
Q: Are lessons held in English? A: At the universities Utrecht and Leipzig the whole program is taught in English. At the University of Graz the classes in the basics module in the first semester are taught in German, at Ca'Foscari Università in Venice in Italian. Thus, depending on your language proficiency, please choose the best home university. The specialization tracks (mobility semester) will be offered in English at each university of the consortium!
Q: I don't have my diploma yet, can I still apply for the program? A: You can apply for the program, but you should mention in your application that you will provide the selection committee with your diploma as soon as possible after graduation.
Q: Do I need a proof of German proficiency? A: In order to study at an Austrian university, you either need an "ÖSD certificate C1" or you take an exam at the "Vorstudienlehrgang" in Graz. Q: When are the results of selections presented? A: After the application deadline of 15 April, the selection committee will be meeting in May and by the end of May all applicants will be informed about the decision of the selection committee so the second step of the application procedure - registration at the chosen home university - can be started.
Q: What exactly does the "financial statement" have to contain? A: Please list how you expect to finance your study and stay in the Netherlands: family contribution, loans, expected (summer) earnings, sponsor contribution, (expected) scholarship, other recourses.
