Joint Degree Management and Administration Network:

Tackling current issues and facing future challenges

 The project

The University of Graz is one of 18 partners in the JOIMAN network which is a European project coordinated by the University of Bologna and funded by the European Commission within the LLP - Erasmus Network program. The project started in November 2008 and will run till September 2010.

Drawing on the previous experience the network partners have in participating in and implementing Erasmus Mundus Projects and Joint Programs in general, JOIMAN aims at providing a set of tools, good practice examples and recommendations for the implementation, administration and management of Joint Programs. The project activities will result in the creation of common guidelines for dealing with the administrative challenges involved in the management of Joint Degrees. Future strategies will be developed for using the knowledge and experience gained in the context of JOIMAN for the development of Joint Programs at doctoral level and in cooperation with non-EU partners (e.g. in Asia, the USA, Latin America).

Issues that are being addressed and worked on by the network are:

  • application, enrolment, selection and certification procedures
  • financial sustainability of Joint Programs
  • governance, organization and quality of Joint Programs
  • development and administration of Joint PhD Programs
  • development and administration of Joint Programs with non-EU and non-Bologna-process institutions
