On October 10, 2023, the Centre for Southeast European Studies (CSEES) welcomed the thirteenth generation of students of the Joint Master's Programme in Southeast European Studies and first generation of the Arqus Joint Master's Programme European Studies at the University of Graz.

The welcome address by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Equal Opportunities, Mireille van Poppel, and the academic coordinator of the Joint Master's Programme in Southeast European Studies and Director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies, Florian Bieber, was followed by an inspiring panel discussion between Bilgin Ayata (CSEES), Florian Bieber (CSEES), and Heike Karge (Southeast European History and Anthropology, Institute of History) on the question "What does the war in Ukraine mean for Southeast European studies?".
