Mandatory Mobility

The mandatory mobility semester (2nd semester) can be completed at one of the following partner universities (excluding your entrance university):

  • University of Basel,
  • University of Graz,
  • Hiroshima University,
  • Leipzig University,
  • Utrecht University, and
  • Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

Please note that mobility places for the specialisation tracks are allocated by the selection committee according to the available resources during the selection meeting.

Financial support
Your chosen entrance university may offer financial support through scholarship programmes (e.g. Erasmus+) for your mandatory mobility. Your respective contact person will inform you at the time of admission to the programme.

Support at your host university
You will be integrated into an incoming student support mechanism at the respective partner university. In addition, you can contact the respective academic coordinator or student advisor for academic guidance.

Grade conversion
In order to transfer your grades from one university to another, these bilateral grade conversion tables are used.

Additional Mobility

You can also complete an additional study period at Bergen University (Norway), Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Teri School of Advanced Studies (India) (additional fees may be charged).

This additional mobility semester can be completed during the third semester, provided the following rules as set out in the curriculum are observed:

  • At least 30 ECTS credits must be successfully completed in the second semester (specialisation track) at one of the partner universities in the consortium (University of Basel, University of Graz, Hiroshima University, Leipzig University, Utrecht University, and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice).
  • The recognition of courses completed during the additional mobility as well as the transfer of credits must be clarified in advance.

Note:

  • It is also possible to complete an internship abroad. Please clarify in advance whether the internship can be recognised for your degree programme (e.g. as a free elective).
  • Another option is to conduct research for the Master’s thesis.
  • It is advised to use the 3rd semester for the additional mobility period. If you would like to apply for the 4th semester, please explain your reasons in your motivation letter. Be aware that this may lead to a prolongation of your studies, as the 4th semester is normally dedicated to the Master’s thesis.

Additional mobility at the partner university

If you would like to complete an additional mobility semester at the partner university where you spent your mandatory mobility semester, please get in touch with the contact person of the Master’s Programme and the respective contact person of the mobility programme at your entrance university.

Additional mobility at Bergen University
Students of the three EU-degree awarding universities (Graz, Leipzig, and Venice) have the opportunity to complete an additional mobility at Bergen University (Norway) in the frame of the Erasmus+ mobility programme. Please get in touch with the contact person at your entrance university to receive further information on the application procedure.

Additional mobility at Stellenbosch University and Teri School of Advanced Studies
The consortium has negotiated a special tuition fee rate for students of the Joint International Master in Sustainable Development who complete an additional mobility at Teri School of Advanced Studies (India) or Stellenbosch University (South Africa). To qualify for the reduced fee, students must apply for a place. The call for applications will be sent to all students by email.

Additional mobility at another university outside the programme
You can also complete an additional mobility semester at a university outside the Master’s programme. Therefore, you must apply for a semester abroad. Please get in touch with the contact person of your entrance university for further information.
