Sustainable Development has high priority on the international political and scientific agenda. It is also a cross-boundary issue, since problems relating to environmental, economic and social issues do not stop at countries' borders. The concept of sustainable development thus is rapidly gaining relevance in national and international agendas.

The Joint International Master in Sustainable Development offers an international and interdisciplinary approach to the intensively debated topic of sustainable development. The programme combines the strengths of eight partner universities from eight countries and three continents, and therefore offers a truly international and high-quality qualification.

The cornerstones of the programme are:

  • Four semesters full time (two years, 120 ECTS)
  • Interdisciplinary approach with specialization tracks from natural and social sciences
  • 60 ECTS have to be earned at the chosen entrance university
  • The second semester involves a specialisation track at one of the partner universities (30 ECTS - mandatory mobility)
  • An additional mobility semester is optional
  • Entrance universities are: University of Graz (Austria), Leipzig University (Germany), Ca' Foscari University Venice (Italy), Hiroshima University (Japan - only Joint Degree option).
  • Specialization tracks can also be chosen at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and Utrecht University (The Netherlands)
  • Joint Degree option with Hiroshima University
  • Additional mobilities are also possible at Teri School of Advanced Sciences (India), Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and the University of Bergen (Norway)
