Degree & Career Prospects

Upon completion of the Joint  Master’s Programme students will be awarded the following degree: Master of Arts in English and American Studies.

Please note that the degree-awarding procedure had to be changed due to new legal regulations.
Students that have entered the programme until and including the academic year 2018/19 at the following universities will still receive the Joint Diploma provided that they complete the programme by 30th September 2022:

  • University of Bamberg
  • Ca' Foscari University of Venice
  • University of Graz

Students that have entered the programme at the Université Paris Cité (former Université de Paris Diderot) after 1st Septmeber 2018 and those that will graduate after 1st September 2018 will receive a double degree from their entrance university (Université Paris Cité) and their mobility university as long as the mobility university is a degree-awarding partner instiution within the consortium.

Students who started the European Joint Master's Programme in English and American Studies from the academic year 2019/20 onwards will receive a double degree from their entrance university and their mobility university as long as the mobility university is a degree-awarding university.

*Double Degree Agreements with Barcelona:

Please note that a Double Degree option is currently being discussed between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the universities of Bamberg, Graz and Venice. The consortium of this Joint Master’s programme plans to implement this option in the 2024 call for applications. 

Requirements for this Double Degree option at the University of Bamberg: Students will spend the third semester or the second year at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where, in addition to the 30 ECTS course work, they are also required to write a dissertation (min. 30 pages, 15 ECTS) on a topic agreed with a supervisor at the UAB. The dissertation will be recognized within the Restricted Electives at the University of Bamberg. It is written in addition to the final degree thesis that students are required to write for the University of Bamberg.

Increasingly, a wide variety of professional fields look for candidates with highly developed language skills, a truly transnational cultural perspective and a high level of overall academic competence.

After graduation a variety of professional fields are open to you! You may pursue an academic career as you are fully qualified for a PhD programme. 

Professional fields in the public and private sector include:
advertising, archive and library services, cultural organisations, diplomatic service, education,  international co-operation, language-oriented professions, mass communication,  publishing, tourism and public relations, or translating.
