The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is renowned for its research excellence and the quality of its teaching, being a benchmark centre in Europe. The UAB is located just 25 minutes by public transport from the centre of Barcelona, a cosmopolitan metropolis on the Mediterranean coast. The main campus is in Bellaterra, at the heart of one of the main technological and industrial hubs of Mediterranean Europe. The UAB covers all aspects of university life. The campus is a true knowledge city, with almost 50,000 inhabitants: students, teaching staff, researchers and administrative staff. It has all the services necessary for a university community.

The UAB promotes innovation, employability and entrepreneurship. It endeavours to promote research and transfer in all branches of knowledge and works side-by-side with the surrounding business and industrial community, and with scientific centres such as the ALBA Synchrotron Light Laboratory.

The international dimension of the UAB can be seen in the number of foreign students, especially on master’s degree and PhD programmes. Over 45 master’s degrees are taught 100% in English. In the 2018 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the UAB is the second Spanish university, occupying position 147 in the world ranking.

The UAB is a sustainable university. It makes an effort to improve the health of the university community, promotes healthy environments and lifestyles and, moreover, is committed to responsible consumption and is a leader in the implementation of sustainable actions.
